Hatha Yoga

The science of Hatha Yoga purifies the whole body by means of Shatkarma & Shatkriya (purification techniques), Asana (postures), Pranayama (breathing techniques), Mudra (hand postures), and Bandha (locks).  This keeps the body and mind stable and in good health. All in preparation to work with a suitably competent teacher or better yet, Guru in Raja Yoga, Kriya Yoga, Kundalini yoga and higher meditative practices.

Yoga Philosophy

The history of yoga dates back at least 5000 years with its first mention in the ancient spiritual text the RigVeda. The Bhagavad Gita was the first spiritual text to declare that it is possible for anyone to be enlightened. Between 400BC and 200BC this knowledge was organised in a systematic way by Patanjali in the way of the Yoga Sutras – a comprehensive system outlining the eight-fold path to reach enlightenment. A few centuries later came Tantra Yoga and soon thereafter Hatha Yoga was born. This philosophy helps us understand the context of yoga intellectually however it is only through practice and direct experience that when we really begin to understand what yoga is all about.
